We repeat this on every page rather than burying it, because the whole point of the site is being the version of this business that does not quietly let you assume otherwise.
How do I check that a contractor is licensed in New Hampshire?
Ask for the license number and look it up at oplc.nh.gov, the New Hampshire Office of Professional Licensure and Certification. The part that catches people out: New Hampshire does not issue a general statewide HVAC contractor license for non-gas work. The state licenses fuel gas fitting through the Board of Mechanical Safety and Licensing, plus mechanical businesses doing gas, plumbing or hearth work. So for a gas or propane job there is a specific credential to verify by name; for others, what you are really checking is insurance, permit history with the town, and track record. A refusal to provide a number is itself the answer.
